Notes in Music-McCartney, Beatles, Electric Arguments, Rolling Stone, Ram On LA
Feb. 27th Fri. evening

Hey people how you doing this evening? This week in Notes in Music- (just in case you might have missed it somehow!) This will be a long post...Here are some happenings you might want to know about and check out...

Ram On LA-Tribute to Paul McCartney, Covers-Album cover right

Out Monday, free.....

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Aquarium Drunkard and Autumn Tone Records announce

Ram on L.A., a cover-compilation featuring 11 of L.A.’s favorite bands – digitally available on Monday, March 2nd
“Los Angeles: huge, sprawling, and eclectic, has been likened to microcosm of the country as whole -- truly a melting pot of various cultures, ethnicities, tastes and influences. So is her music. With various scenes and sub-scenes, rarely has there been a defining "sound" that marks the overall zeitgeist of what is happening in the city at any one time. In 2008 I set out to create a compilation of a dozen or so L.A. based artists that I felt were creating something both unique and diverse. After some thought I decided that there needed to be a running theme, something to tie the artists together into a cohesive whole, a common bond.
As records tend to do, a revisited appreciation of Paul McCartney's 1971 solo album, RAM, had begun to see a resurgence of sorts within a number of local Eastside artists, coming up in conversations and on the turntables of various house parties.

The theme was found Over the course of the second half of 2008 eleven Angeleno artists individually went in to various studios, rehearsal spaces and apartments to record their take on what is my favorite, and arguably, McCartney's best solo work.... the end result is RAM On L.A.”
Justin Gage

Founder

Aquarium Drunkard/Autumn Tone Records

Released as a high-quality 320kbs MP3 digital download via Aquarium Drunkard's label, Autumn Tone Records, the not-for-profit compilation is free for download at www.aquariumdrunkard.com. Listeners are encouraged to make donations to No More Landmines (http://www.landmines.org.uk), the fantastic cause that "helps and empowers communities around the world by removing the threat of landmines and unexploded weapons." A cause championed by Sir Paul McCartney himself.

With a truly diverse lineup, comprised of both Los Angeles scene stalwarts and new faces alike, listeners get to sample a slice of the present "sound" of Los Angeles, while revisiting one of if not, the best solo effort by one of the greatest artists of the last five decades. Every penny of donations from listeners will go directly to No More Landmines

hb: What a creative idea.....I just might get this myself and it's all for a worthy cause. Great album art work!

Electric Arguments Deluxe set-late
What in the world? Last night, I had posted on Macca's webby, asking about my Electric Arguments Deluxe box set, I ordered last Nov.
One of the mods informed me another webby claimed the Deluxe sets were going to be made available in mid-April? Say Whaa? Ok than, why were we not informed and shown some love via email on the delay?
It was also stated that the new Deluxe Electric Arguments sets would have a few more goodies added to those who purchased em?
Don't know if that is true or not? I just think it a bit odd we were not informed. Now, this is taking an entire 5 mos. to receive my Macca music? lmao!

Beatles phone Blackberry themes

Hey Beatles fans, you heard it, Right?

Yesterday, you might have heard about it- that lil leak of unreleased Beatles music-NO not the anticipated Carnival of Light..lol but....

that other one? Revolution One. So, I says to myself, self? What is the point of posting it when there is a great possibility of it being torn down, minced, chopped & dropped? It was! HA! No big surprise there, right?... stating copyrights... It was brill!.

Who would have thought it-someone, would actually "Get Their Knickers In A Twist?" As I write this post, I am currently listening for the 5th time. Kinda like a 5th Beatle. Thank goodness for mp3's. & well?..big fans of music who happen to- perhaps-Love the Beatles?

Surely, Paul McCartney, wouldn't really mind at all,-would he? after all, Macca, doesn't mind downloading music..We, buy all the music anyways despite the downloads or not..

Oh The Holy Grail? Lame!
Damn, will people get their facts straight? research first..I never said this was the "Holy Grail" did you? ha! Don't copy other ppls stories! make em your own. This is why I don't post about half the crap I read of the net, pure bullchips. I'm still waiting on Carnival of Light- lmao
thoughts anyone?

Paul McCartney has been tapped to headline the grand-opening weekend of The New Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas on April 19. "I'm looking forward to Rockin' The Joint!" McCartney said in a statement.

The Joint's remodel, which is part of a $750 million expansion of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, will double the venue's size but maintain the atmosphere of the original, with the furthest seat in the house only 155 feet from the stage. The $60 million remodel includes a state-of-the-art sound system, an innovative lighting system, WiFi access throughout the venue, a full blogging station for press covering events, and 38 flat screens throughout the venue, according to a press release.

"We could not have asked for a greater rock-and-roll legend than Paul McCartney to open The New Joint at Hard Rock Hotel," President and Co-CEO of Concerts West/AEG Live John Meglen said in a statement. "The booking of Paul McCartney reinforces The Joint's image as the legendary home of rock."

Tickets sold out within minutes on sale Feb. 14 at the hotel box office and via Ticketmaster.
We hope you can join us for what should be a truly unforgettable weekend.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Loves the Beatles too
Feb 20th

And who can blame her? Here you thought, you, were the only one influenced by The Beatles? so was the former First lady, lol. Miss Hillary, recently told Fox News, she thought John Lennon and Paul McCartney "were geniuses". And I'm just glad I got to live throught that period," she said. Hb: Yes, they are Hillary :)
.Well, like so many Beatles fans, it depends both on mood and stage of life. I have to confess ... that the hand-clapping mode was what I first was captured by. 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' was an anthem, as you might imagine." Hb: I'll have to agree with Mrs. Clinton on that one- it does depend on your mood & what's happening in your life, to say, what your favorite period or song is at the time? It..does change
The Beatles are the song book of many lives.

Hey Jude is Hillary's Fav~
Clinton named "Hey Jude" as Favorite Foto courtesy AP Beatles song, praising its Biblical tone and seriousness — but she might have trouble heeding some of its "existential" lessons.Hb: Hey Jude, has biblical tones? it was written about John Lennons son Jullian..

Paul McCartney influenced
As the 67th Secretary of state continues her first trip abroad, following Paul McCartney's advice — "Don't carry the world upon your shoulders" — might be a little harder than it sounds.
Hb:Hillary Clinton, is smart as she is clever....heheheh

A Beatles dedication to Hillary Clinton Secretary of State

Reminds ya, of Temporary Secretary.. hehehe..almost posted that one too. Wonder if Macca will catch the lil snippet and respond to Hillary Clintons comments.?.
ps, Hillary,.. I like the new DO, as seen in recent piccies..

Paul McCartney see you at The Joint in Vegas!!

Happy Valentines to all you out there. An especially exciting Valentines Day to the fans who lucky enough to get tickets to the exclusive gig-at The joint, Hard Rock Cafe, in Las Vegas..

Jamming the Lines
Today at 12 noon sharp 1000's of anxious fans (got their fingers ready) jammed the phone lines & Internet in hopes of buying a ticket to see Paul McCartney on April 19th at the Legendary Hard Rock Cafe & Casino..
*
Hopes were dashed for many as Ticketmaster "stated there were no floor seats available" after one minute after 12pm . How can that be? I was on the phone and the net. I could not get a seat on the net at all.. Finally after 3 attempts..I finally, was able to purchase a ticket...wooohooo...wow! almost sweat ed that one big time..

The McCartney "Joint venue" was a most difficult ticket to obtain....for fans..

Other anguished fans were disappointed as it appeared the Joint gig was sold out within minutes. However Ticketmaster, held back some tickets as persistent fans kept trying and trying-for over an hour in some cases, to secure at least, ONE ticket-with success for some while others hopes fell short. Die hard fans, will do almost anything to see Paul McCartney. Tickets were mainly sold for the main floor at $191-$218 w/surcharges...

I am so excited to see Paul McCartney again, it's been over a year plus, since I saw Paul, at Amoeba Records on Sunset in Hollywood...I can't freakin wait!

more later I'm to excited to post any more~

Brian & Paul Rockin it out at the 51st annual Dammys

Brian Ray Rockin it out with Paul McCartney at the Grammys
Friday the 13th, evening~
^
I want to say a little something in the aftermath, in the afterglow of our performance on the Grammys on Sunday night here in LA. We kicked off a fantastic weekend the way you know you should... with a party.. it was the birthday of Pablo [sound man for Macca and AD/DC] held at Katana, where we ate and drank like kings and queens.. Ok, He ate like a queen, hahahah! kidding! I ate like a spotted pig... we had all sorts of friends pop by and stayed late. Thanks, Vernon!! Thanks, Barrie!!!-

Rehearsing for the Grammys

The next morning it was time to get to "work" because we had 2 rehearsals to do in one day.. something we've never done with Paul before. Abe Laboriel Jr [Paul's extraordinary drummer] had a prior commitment with some guitar God.... Eric something or rather, in Japan so Paul called on Dave Grohl, who had joined us on a few songs last year in Liverpool to do drum duties. Since we were only doing one song which wasn't originally recorded with keys, there was no Wix Wickens either :-(..

So.... there we were - a 4 piece band playing through a number of Paul's songs.. Honey Hush, Honey Don't, Matchbox, Let Me Roll It and Jet before we even got to the song we were performing, "I Saw Her Standing There".. we laughed, and rocked out with Dave looking and playing excitedly..

We broke it up after a few hours so they could move the gear to the Staples Center for our rehearsal there.. Once there, we played a similar set for the audience there who seemed to lose it as he sang and played a little set for them. Man, that was a blast! That night we had invites to Clive Davis' annual bash..
There was so much talent in that room, my GOD! Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone, Prince, Leona Lewis, Jennifer Hudson, Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart and Paul to name just a few.. Great performances.
.Hb: Damn, how I would have loved to be at that lil happenin! Hey Bri, you didn't mention Paris Hilton? :)

The day of the show...

what can I say.. it's the big game, right? Wow, security like you've never seen into Staples... We had a skybox, we ran into a bunch of friends and had a nice [and long] day there. We watched from the audience as Radiohead and U2, Coldplay and Smokey Robinson spun their webs of coolness. I feel blessed and happy.. Paul ROCKED it, as we looked out onto an audience of the best artists of our time.. what a trip!! They went NUTS...Hb: 'Spun their webs of coolness' I like that sayin, Brian, lol

We caravanned out of there but not before Paul got swarmed and swamped by over zealous fans, but we had the best dinner ever, together afterwards.

In other news...

It now looks like I will not be joining Johnny Hallyday for his upcoming tour in France this year due to scheduling. I wish him and that fantastic band the very best!
Also, let's raise a glass to "Secret" Sid Pryce, who was just given the 'Back-Line Technician of the Year' award from Total Production International. Sid has been doing my guitars and has kept me comfortable and laughing for 7 years now. He is the best there is, having done guitars for Peter Green, The Who and Pink Floyd, back in the day. The secret is OUT! Yay, Sid!

Well, so that's it.. just wanted to keep you all in the loop!

Watch this space.. new songs are coming along nicely in my new home studio, 'Bad Manors'... soon I will have pics and some webcam moments in my process... I will run some ideas by you guys and gals and ask for some input on my marketing and strategies and choices for my new Album.

Stay close and stay warm,

Love,

Brian

Hb: Damn, Brian, sure is charming, isn't he? Must be nice to live the charmed life as a Rock Star and playing with Paul McCartney these past few years-more than a few now. I would have loved to be at that party..Sly stone & Paul, Rod Stewart,Stevie Wonder? damn~

OK, Brian, tell us how to score Tix, for upcoming events? Since 'scheduling conflicts' tell us, you will be doing small gigs here & there with Macca? dunno about Coachella? The Joint, is charging an arm and a leg, what in this economy how can one afford it!?! I don't mean to sound pessimistic but, the, ticket situation, looks kinda gloomy~for us hardcore fans-feel me?

Notes in Music-Electric Arguments, Air Play, the Dammys
Feb 12th eve...
Hey people, How are you? just when you think the Grammys couldn't suck any worse, The people of the Grammys have stripped all videos posted on Youtube for copyright Infringement-What the hell? Why can't they not get a clue? There are people that missed the Dammys-damnit. What are the Grammys afraid of?

The entire, Grammy award show, is a complete farce-period so I say- next year. Let's all boycott and not watch, See the ratings plummet even further, next year! Apparently The Grammys did not bother to learn anything from McCartney. Radiohead, & Lil Wayne-as posted by The Chicago Tribune Let the Dammys crash & burn~ great article..

Why no Air play of Electric Arguments?
I tell you, since Paul McCartney released his latest album Electric Arguments in November, I have not heard one track played on the air, on local radio ie: KFOX & KFOG. What is up with that? They can plug Bruce Springsteen's album & upcoming tour, but cannot play Macca's critically acclaimed album, or even talk about it? do Disc Jocks even know the album exists? I wonder if Electric Arguments is getting any air play anywhere, besides the UK? c'mon radio stations give Macca a fair "Spin" will you~

Lovers is a Dream-Electric Arguments, The Fireman loved this video so much done by Maccaspan I'll post it again~enjoy

Electric Arguments Deluxe
I happen to be one of those who ordered Paul McCartneys Deluxe version of Electric Arguments, guess what? I still have not received it and it's Feb.12th, when am I gonna get my cool, box set? Has anyone else reading this received theirs yet, please let me know. How long is it gonna take.
Macca could have delivered it to me personally, by now,-since he was in town~ lol Could you imagine, Paul McCartney, knocking on your door, disguised voice, than apologizing for your late package? I'd laugh, I'd cry, I have no idea what I would do? lol

Amazon Amoeba Secret EP
Amazon is offering Paul McCartney's Live gig at The Ameoba, for a discount, if you're interested? The EP, is on CD, if you did not get a chance to purchase the limited edition vinyl album, you can buy the cd at a discount. You can click the link above on the left-The amazon widget here on my blog...

What the hell were the Grammys thinking?

Mon Feb 9th evening
What the hell were the Grammys thinking?

I wondered all day- what would I actually post about last nights Grammys- a full out rant? or something more controlled? Hell with that! I can say, this years Grammys almost sucked, why? For one it did not flow well and some of the artists just made it go from bad to worse with odd pairings...Shall we take it back? I was expecting something spectacular from the highest honors in music.. Have the Grammys lost it's music luster? A short review.

But, before I get into all that. What the hell is wrong with Chris Brown? Damn, he beating on his girl Rhianna like that? Right before the Grammys. Chris outta be bitch slapped. Men don't hit women, only punks and cowards do.~

Where do we start people? How bout the beginning? Was it just me or was Whitney Houston higher than a kite feeling no pain? Perhaps Ms. Houston had a bit too much bubbly? yeah, right.

U2's performance-weak. The Orchestra was louder than Bono~lol
Coldplay-w/Jay Z interesting? however coldplay's Viva La Vida lacking spark.
Carrie Underwood-gave a incredible performance.. One of the best of the night.
Sugarland-was excited to accept their award for best country album? and thanked Paul McCartney-very giddy that Macca was in attendance- their performance very good I thought.

Speaking of which you never knew who was going to actually accept an award on stage. This was about performances at this years Grammys. I guess they figured the didn't want to bore the viewing audiences with. I'd like to Thank God Speeches, my family, manager, cat etc...

Great performance by Al Green was I surprised by his appearance..

Jonas bros. and Stevie Wonder-What the? No please. This should have been Stevie Wonder featuring the Jonas bros, Stevie rocked it out with Superstition. The Jonas brothers were just-pathetic!

Than there is Samuel Jackson-who, I, believed was going to introduce Paul McCartney? Wrongo, he introduces Kenny Chesney..Man was I confused by S. Jacksons introduction. Well, he said something like 'one of the biggest artists and poets, blah blah blah'.. lol

High Notes~
Lil Wayne- Gave a moving tribute to New Orleans well done..Mister Gangster~
as was The Tribute to the 4 Tops-that was brilliant also-another Top performance.

Adele-her Grammy award for best new artist/w Chasing Pavements...just lovely listening to it live. But wouldn't you know it? Kanye West, had to bitch about he, was never choosen as
Best new artist when introducing Adele..You know what I say to that? Too Fucking bad, Kanye..
stop- already...I was warmin up to you a lil bit~

Slam hits at the Grammys
Paul McCartney-Saw her Standing there with David Grohl of the Fool Fighters, Rusty & Brian
missed it? see Macca performance here unable to post it here~

Radiohead-15 Steps another Top performance

Radiohead w/USC marching band

Of course... Radiohead did not win album of the year-would you expect any less? but Plant/Krauss. What the hell? Yeah, the audiance was effin surprised also-freakin bummer. As well as Paul McCartney, not winning either Grammy nom. Double sucks! He lost to Mayer for Say-freakin lame I tell you. I think they just invited Macca expecting a larger television audiance-American Idol has more viewers than the Grammys..you know it..

The Grammys could have done us all a favor and nix that dreadful shrilling performance by Swift & whats her name? and let Paul McCartney run with it with a Beatles melody of his choosing-After all, this was Paul McCartney one of the Greatest living musicians of all time~

Oh but wait! The Grammys couldn't come up with something like this. They chose instead meat-by-product fillers, than wasted valuable air time of musics highest honors with some non-sense crap.

The Grammys Suck and not well. Total boycott, I'll never watch the Grammys again, done with them Fat dollar, deep pocket, shysters.. They had a chance to redeem themselves but fell 'FLAT' as usual. Next years Dammys-don't bother to watch people..The Grammys have went from Greatness in the past to Lameness in the present.

Have any highs, Lows of The Dammys? leave your comments
perhaps more ranting later...lol

The Grammy's The Super Oldie show & other Notes in Music!!

The Grammys The Super Oldie Show & other Notes in Music!!
Sun 3:15pm
Hey people, tonight is the Grammys and you know I have been waiting on this one, Big Time.
more on the Grammys Below.

While waiting for the Grammy show tonight or just cruisin the net, why not listen to Tony Sandovals, Sunday Super Oldies show. Tony rolls out the oldies every Sunday, a must listen too, if I do say so myself...a great show Heart & Soul.

Oh Miss Etta James!~
ha! this last week I woke to K-Fog radio station in San Francisco, as I do every morning, and what did I hear? The Legendary Ms. Etta James going off on President Barack Obama & Beyonce! I laughed cuz Etta was hella pissed! At a recent concert in Seattle Wa. She said to her fans:

"You guys know your President right? You know the one with the big ears. Yeah, wait a minute, he ain't my President, he might be yours.

"But I tell you that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she gonna get her ass whipped. The great Beyonce! ... I can't stand Beyonce! She had no business up there singing ... singing my song that I've been singing forever."
^
hb: Yeah, Etta, I was thinking why in the world was Beyonce singing "At Last" at the Presidential Inauguration? this is your signature song!~ It was a slap in the face that you were not asked to sing-your own song yourself, damn! at The Pres. Inauguration-

I wondered if Etta was gonna say something about this, publicly?-well she did and she said it loud, can you blame her? Paul McCartney's own Brian Ray got his start with Etta James and played with Etta as Musical director and guitarist for over a decade. Personally, I believe Etta herself should have been asked to play her own song. I would be pissed too!

Super Oldies Love Jam
Yep, that's right, harleyblues, attended the Super Oldies Love Jam in San Jose, Friday Night with some friends on the floor in the 12th row. All performers had a 3 song set. A snippet of the gig below.

There were some highs & some lows.. Let's get the lows over with. I was slightly disappointed Sunny Ozuna didn't sing 'Put me in Jail', however it was nice to hear 'Smile now Cry later'. The Mary Jane girls, WTF? JoJo had alotta personality on stage but her back up singers were dreadful, no, make that, embarrassing. I didn't bother standing up & dancing for her set at all!

The Originals, did a brilliant rendition of Marvin Gayes, Distant Lover. Wow that was hot! Almost as if Marvin was there himself. Their harmonies were beautiful.. What really did it if for me was The Delfonics-wheeew, I sang every song, every lyric. I couldn't believe I was actually hearing the Delfonics the first time ever, live-a definite standing ovation just brilliant. A bit surprised they didn't sing 'Hey Love' I'm still thinking back on The Delfonics performance. Truly mesmerizing.

GQ's set was off the hook also, between the guitar playing and his set it was truly magic, mad skills there. Billy Paul- 'Me & Mrs. Jones''damn that was my moms fav tune when I was a kid.
he looks 80 but belted it out--serious. lol

Finally, Heatwave & Zapp rounded out the gig with brilliant-high energy performances that was both entertaining & funny, accompanied with old school dances, afros, booming music that shook the floor & great lyrics. The people on the floor were up and dancing from their seats and the ailes as the fragrant smell of 'smoke' drifted all thru-out those seated on the floor of the Shark Tank! lol The Zapp set & Heatwave set was reminiscent of Parliament Funk-a-delic- truly great performances to end a night of music memories from the past.

The Grammys...I wanna enjoy them this year..

OK, so it's 6:42 pm and I am holding my breathe like most Beatle fans around the world wondering, hoping-Paul McCartney will win a Grammy Tonight for "Amoebas Secret gig"

'Saw her Standing there' & 'That was me' I hope Macca isn't dissed once again as he has been in Grammy past. Speaking of being dissed I just read a great snippet back stage at the Grammys via the OC Register:
(I swear I'm not going to search any more on the Grammys I'm going to watch it Live as it happens) I anticipate this Grammys will be hugely watched this year due to the Performer line-up and dissatisfaction of music award shows to see if the Grammys can redeem themselves-we'll see.

AND THE WALRUS WAS PAUL: Former Beatle Paul McCartney dropped by to say hello, and we said goodbye. Sorry, couldn't resist it.

The talkative and personable music icon chided a couple of journalists for looking down at their laptops in his presence.

“You can read your laptops anytime, but I'm only here once,” he joked.

Paul, who was up for an award but also scheduled to perform, said he doesn't come to these events expecting to win anything. hb: Paul, you don't expect to win, I do tho, you deserve it.

Rock Icon Paul McCartney to Headline Grand Opening Weekend at The New Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas

Tickets On-Sale Saturday, February 14 at noon

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The legendary Paul McCartney will headline grand opening weekend of The New Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas on Sunday, April 19.

"I'm looking forward to Rockin' The Joint!" said Paul McCartney.

"We are honored to have the multi-Grammy award winning artist and rock legend, Paul McCartney, launch us into a new era of rock 'n' roll at the all new Joint concert venue scheduled to open at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in April," said Randy Kwasniewski, President and COO of Morgans Hotel Group Las Vegas and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. "The new Joint will be the most sophisticated, intimate, and authentic venue in Las Vegas - unlike anything the city has ever seen."

"We could not have asked for a greater rock and roll legend than Paul McCartney to open The New Joint at Hard Rock Hotel," said President & Co-CEO of Concerts West/AEG Live John Meglen. "The booking of Paul McCartney reinforces The Joint's image as the legendary home of rock. The new venue will be THE place for artists to play and fans to experience a concert in Las Vegas."

Tickets go on-sale Saturday, February 14 at noon at the Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.com or charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000.

The New Joint inherited its name from the legendary original Hard Rock venue and was designed by the renowned Montreal-based architectural design firm Sceno Plus. The New Joint will double in size while keeping the same atmosphere of the original venue and will carry on the up-close and authentic feel with the furthest seat in the house only 155 feet from the stage.

The New Joint will be a multipurpose facility featuring a state-of-the-art sound system, an innovative lighting system, WiFi access throughout the venue, a full blogging station for press covering events, and 38 flat screens throughout the venue to guarantee the ultimate viewing experience. The New Joint's $60 million project is part of the widely-publicized $750 million expansion the Hard Rock broke ground on in 2007; slated for completion in late 2009.

The Ticket Monopoly
hb: Geez, I'd like to attend this, since I have no way of getting to Coachella. perhaps it's possible? Tickets will be sold out within minutes. I'm not to keen on Ticket master. Scalpers have the monopoly on big events-'don't they always?' It should be two tickets-only per fan/buyer.

My last Vegas gig, seeing Macca in concert wasn't that great, lot's of mishaps. I had an extra ticket. The first night, I was in the back one off the floor, kinda awkward. The second night I fared better, one level off the floor. One guy tried to sit in my empty seat that I had paid for, WTF? I had no one to give the ticket too! lol...more later..
