Paul McCartney will appear in a new five-minute promotional film to publicize Liverpool's legendary Casbah Coffee Club, which is owned and maintained by original Beatle Pete Best and his family. The Casbah, which was situated within the Best family home, was one of the most important breeding grounds for the "Mersey Beat," and a key venue for the pre-fame Beatles.
The Casbah was recently awarded English Heritage status. Macca stated in a press release that, "I think it's a good idea to let people know about the Casbah. They know about the Cavern, they know about some of those things, but the Casbah was the place where all that started."
The commercial will premiere on Friday (May 11th), and will be shown at various places in and around Liverpool.
In addition to McCartney and Best, the spot also features appearances by John Lennon's first wife Cynthia Lennon, and the Beatles' recently retired right-hand man and Apple Corps Managing Director Neil Aspinall. The Quarrymen, featuring John Lennon, George Harrison and McCartney, performed at the opening night of the Casbah on August 29th, 1959.
