Paul McCartney talks about his rawkin weekend! Shea Stadium and Quebec

Paul McCartney talks about his Rawkin weekend! Shea Stadium and Quebec
below a snippet:
Paul McCartney appeared onstage at Shea Stadium on Friday 18th July as part of the ‘Last Play At Shea’ concert. In the same weekend he performed a free outdoor concert in Quebec City to over 270,000 people as part of Quebec’s 400th Anniversary celebrations.

“Man, we had such a great night. No one ever wants a great night to come to an end. It was great looking out into the audience and seeing them enjoying themselves as much as we were. Then there are all the special banners they make, I always try to have a read of those.
There was a sea of Union Jacks and the audience also had their own flashing lights with them, which looked incredible when the sun had gone down. I had a really great time with ‘toute la gang!’”

The following day Paul was all over the TV, radio and press (he was on the cover of all of the Canadian papers). Front page headlines included ‘Quebeckers Come Together Over Paul’, ‘One Knight Stand: Sir Paul Conquers Quebec’, ‘Paul-mania Sweeps Quebec’ and ‘Paul Makes History As He Conquers Quebec’.
The local press office estimated that over 2600 international articles had appeared overnight around the world including coverage on Time, CNN, BBC, Rolling Stone, Billboard, L’Express and Le Nouvelobs.

Final reports indicated that at least 270,000 people had squeezed into the park to watch Paul’s show. Is this just an average weekend for Paul McCartney?

“This was the mother of all weekends!” laughed Paul.
“It was incredible looking back to have a weekend with two such major events. Even looking back now it’s all a bit dreamlike. Just thinking about the rush to make it to Shea Stadium and just about getting there on time for the show and then performing such a big show in Quebec it doesn’t seem all real.
I had such a great time. Shea brought back some magical memories of the guys and when we were starting out. Quebec was just really special and unforgettable. It also gave me a good excuse to brush up on my French.”

July 2008: Kiev, London, NYC and Quebec from Brian

^
^
July 2008: Kiev, London, NYC and Quebec from Brian
now wasn't I just asking today on Brian's thread at Paul's webby why we haven't heard from Brian? just got this email~

Just got back from our show in Quebec, a free show for nearly 300,000 people celebrating 400 years of independence. It was quite a sight.. The streets around the Hotel and the streets of the city were filled to the top with people anticipating Paul's arrival there. The local constabulary had to disperse the fans from every possible entrance in advance of our police escort speeding us into the garage of the castle-like Fontenac Hotel.. But hang on...

Our big show in Kiev!

Let's back up because I haven't had time to write all of you since our other BIG show in Kiev in the Ukraine, I've just been sooo busy. So, last we met we just finished the show in Liverpool, right? So, we went back to the south of England to rehearse for Kiev.. 4 beautiful days at Paul's country spot there.

Pulled over by the Ukrainian cops

...We flew into Kiev the day before the show. At dinner on the terrace I met some locals who invited me out for a drive around their city.. and as an ambassador of my own fair city, how could I refuse? It was great until Katya took an illegal left right in front of the cops!! Yeah, so they pulled the 4 of us over and took Katya into the back of the police car to question her.. and closed the door! That would be a lawsuit here!! Anyway, she told them she was showing Paul McCartney's guitarist around.. they insisted she was drunk and demanded 100 Euros!! Wow... so THAT'S how it's done there? Ah, but what a gorgeous city .. and what nice people

Show day - it was POURING.. I mean BUCKETS..

The next day was show day.. woke up to a nice but cloudy day.. Well, pretty soon it started raining... then lightening, thunder and then it was POURING.. I mean BUCKETS.. for an outdoor show with 350,000 expected to show up! The rain stopped for our soundcheck after we postponed it. We all hoped we would have a clear night..

It poured even more. Sheets of rain, more than we had ever seen. Our trailer was almost floating away as Paul calmly continued to learn Ukrainian in the dining/hang out area.. We were all awaiting news of cancellation.. it never came. We walked with umbrellas to a drenched stage and started the show. The people couldn't believe it.. HE'S here!No one left... soon, after about 6 songs the rain slowed.. then it stopped.

The crowd was ecstatic, hearing these songs live for the first time... Wow.. I'll never forget their spirit, standing in the rain, lightning and thunder over us all, not giving an inch of their standing space.. Beautiful!!

Recording in London with a French rock icon

After Kiev I returned to London to begin recording a new CD for Johnny Hallyday, French Rock icon.. A first, I thought the schedule of 12 days, 10 hours a day, no days off was going to be a drag.. By the second day we were all having the time of our life.. great players, great songs and producer, great food and tons of laughs.

And finally... on to beautiful Quebec

So, shoot forward to Quebec... after rehearsing in London we flew to NYC... [105 degrees!!] As the motorcade slithered into the parking garage and we took the backdoors and service elevators to our rooms we looked out over the beautiful Quebec City.. Show day, NO RAIN!! ahhhhhh, nice!

In the Field of Abraham where the French fought for and gained their independence, one certain Englishman returned to sing for them.. As far as you could see there were people.. faces behind the stage for a mile, watching us on another big screen.. and in the nearby city squares and parks as well.. Paul McCartney sang 37 songs, not even counting some segues and impromptu jams... 3 hours. We had a terrific time, thanks to Canada. I LOVE it up there.

No more hyphen for brianray.com!!

Here's some news for y'all. My website, soon to be re-imagined, is now under a new domain name.. brianray.com. That's right... no hyphen!! Yeah, I had to work a deal with a certain fellow who was sitting on it but it's mine now.. I'll return to recording my next record soon with my new home studio almost ready to plug in.

Ok, so that's a LOT.. Sorry to go on and on. Next time I won't wait so long to update my friends.

Wishing you the best summer EVER!!

With love,

Brian

Nice one Brian so you almost got busted in Kiev, huh? what a freakin life you lead Mister!!

Whats up for Paul McCartney now?

^

Whats up for Paul McCartney now?

So Quebec fans are most likely still, on a natural high from Macca's HUGE gig last Sunday. Today Paul is in Liverpool for graduation ceremonies at LIPA.

Man that was great in 2003 waiting for Paul & Heather to come out of the School to hopefully catch a glimpse of him, and Paul almost running over my foot!~ true story... I was waiting with the media than we all decided to run to the back should have stayed in the front, damn!. Seeing students with signed instruments, this one student was on cloud nine when Paul signed his guitar it was beautiful.. (wish that had been me!)..

I have never gotten Paul McCartney's autograph and yes I have been so close, don't you hate when that happenes?

Will Paul be giving anymore FREE gigs? Will he hit the US next, or Australia, or some other country? I sure hope it is NOT Israel! Don't do it Paul.. I guess we all just have to wait and see what Paul has up his sleeve? Stay tuned!!

McCartney's set satisfies with mix of old and new
Bernard Perusse ,
Montreal Gazette
Published: 36 minutes ago
QUEBEC - The publicity seekers and agenda makers would have had egg on their faces to hear the wall of cheers that greeted Paul McCartney as he addressed more than 200,000 people on the Plains of Abraham with a simple "Bonsoir les quebecois! Bonsoir toute la gang!" after opening his set with an exhuberant Jet.

With the sea of glow sticks, cell phones and flicking red light badges of Quebec's Festival d'été taking the place of the mandatory lighters in a crowd that stretched as far as the eye could see across the Plains,

McCartney continued in rocker mode as he pumped his beloved Hofner bass - the same model he played with the Beatles - and delivered, in quick succession, Drive my Car and Only Mama Knows.
"Je parle seulement un petit peu français," (sic), the singer said, "so I'll be speaking English." Not that this seemed to be a problem to anyone, as he reached back 45 years to sing a joyous All My Loving, continued with Flaming Pie and a driving Got to Get You into my Life, before upping the crowd's energy level with a screaming Let me Roll It and the reggae-inflected C Moon.

C'est ma première visite au Québec - and it's a great place," he said.

Hb~ nice lil write up Bernard~

Paul McCartney Quebec show draws thousands, soundcheck
Kevin Dougherty,
The GazettePublished: 2 hours ago The Soundcheck

QUEBEC - McCartney fans sang along to the 1960s Beatles hit Baby you can drive my car during the sound check as thousands converged on the site of Paul McCartney's free concert to celebrate Quebec City's 400th anniversary.
Serge Bélisle, of the Quebec City police, said about 200,000 or more spectators were expected.
"It's a North American happening," Bélisle said. "Everything is going well."

McCartney sang Hey Jude, The long and winding road, Honey don't, as well as Wings hits and singalong songs.
As helicopters flew overhead, spectators could hear McCartney say the bass sounded a bit off in the sound-check session.

Traffic was diverted away from the site and extra buses were added.
Many walked to the site while others used bicycles.
Bélisle said only between 80,000 and 100,000 would be able to actually see McCartney. The remainder of the crowd would have to see him on giant TV screens erected on and off site.

BellVu to charge fans to see FREE McCartney gig Quebec

BellVu to charge fans to see FREE McCartney gig Quebec

Geez, Paul McCartney's memorable concert taking place on the Plains of Abraham on Sunday July 20th on its digital TV service. Music fans across the country can watch the free Preshow beginning at 8:30pm followed by the show live.
Bell is the only provider to broadcast the show nationally. This concert will be presented on channel (355) for English and (165) in French.

The live show will cost only $ 19.95. (yeah only $19.99? what a joke to charge people!)

For those that did not get the chance to see Macca live will be charged $17.99 repeats & $19.99 to see the gig in high definition on July 25th.

WTF? why are they charging fans money too see a free gig? A&E didn't charge people too see Pauls gig in Moscow? but offered the oppurtunity to purchase, if you so choose. I think it's really crummy that they did not offer to show the broadcast for a number of days for people across Canada, Instead decided to cash in.... Man that is strong armed robbery!

Why do People wanna ruin Pauls Gig in Quebec? forget the Politics!

^

Why do People wanna ruin Paul's Gig in Quebec forget the Politics!
please see video below too lol

Ok I can see people being political and not wanting Paul McCartney to play the middle east. such as Israel.. but c'mon people why do you need to try and ruin it for the people of Canada that want to see Paul in Quebec this Sunday? What a bunch of crap!!! Why cuz he is singing in English and not French? That is some weak crap!!!

In an exceprt from the national post
: Separatists decry McCartney's Quebec concert Another English invasion?
Graeme Hamilton,
National Post Published:
Wednesday, July 16,
2008 MONTREAL --

He will be wielding a bass guitar, not a musket, but Paul McCartney's free concert this Sunday on Quebec City's Plains of Abraham has some sovereigntist politicians and artists complaining of another British invasion!

. In an open letter endorsed by two Parti Québécois Members of the National Assembly, Quebec City painter and sculptor Luc Archambault informs:

"McCartney that he should learn some French songs before coming to perform as part of Quebec City's 400th anniversary celebrations "( ahh Bullshit!)

The presence of your English-language music on the most majestic part of Battlefields Park, as beautiful as it might be, can't help but bring back painful memories of our Conquest," Mr. Archambault writes.

Calling McCartney an "international Anglo-Saxon idol," he asks him to use his performance to make a plea for the sovereignty of the Quebec people. That, Mr. Archambault says, would display the same sensitivity to "the people of French Quebec" as the ex-Beatle has already shown to "the fate of the seals."
(In 2006, McCartney and his then wife, Heather Mills, dropped on to ice floes off Quebec's Magdalene Islands to protest the seal hunt.)

It's a celebration people! rejoice be happy and shake your asses off!! This is Paul McCartney The Greatest Living Legend!! If you donot wanna see Paul Live don't go to the concert period! Lighten up Buttercup!

When Paul Rawked out Paris this past year I'm sure the people of Paris France weren't pissed off that Paul didn't sing in French? He is freakin British! dumb dumb dumb dumb! lol

For those attending this event I hope you have a effin Rawkin great time!!!

Paul McCartney summoned Quebec nationalists to Smoke pipes of peace

^
^
MONTREAL - Ex - Beatle and perennial love-advocate Paul McCartney summoned Quebec nationalists on Thursday "to smoke the pipes of peace" over their opposition to his free concert this weekend. (hb take: right Paul they need to freakin chill!) Ive added my own lil comments as seen below "hb take"

THE CANADIAN PRESS/AP-Lefteris Pitarakis
Several artists and politicians have been questioning McCartney's participation in Quebec City's 400th anniversary celebration because of his British roots. (hb take: ohh woooes me!)

But McCartney told Radio-Canada he was unmoved by their claim his presence evokes painful memories of Britain's conquest of New France in 1760.
(hb take: geeez half these people and even their great grand parents weren't even thought of?) how freakin lamo~lol

"I think it's time to smoke the pipes of peace and to just, you know, put away your hatchet because I think it's a show of friendship," he said. (hb take: Right on Macca!)

McCartney appeared eager to deflate the political rhetoric that nationalists are trying to attach to Sunday's show on the Plains of Abraham, site of the pivotal 1759 battle between British General James Wolfe and France's Marquis Louis-Joseph de Montcalm.
"The kind of thing I read about in the schoolbooks when I was a kid was......who was General Wolfe?" he said jokingly. "I still haven't figured it out." (hb take: Paul don't feel bad I have no freakin idea who he is either!)

McCartney said he disagrees with the suggestion that he shouldn't play in Quebec City just because Wolfe's troops happened to defeat Montcalm's on the Plains.
"What, are you saying nobody but French people should play in Quebec?"
(hb take: Oh this is fresh! nobody freakin complained when Celine Dion played in Vegas all those years and she even got paid~ Where is Kathy Griffin when we need her? whatta maroon hahaha Kathy there is some great material here)

By that logic, he said, Britons and Germans should never visit each other's country because of the world wars.

"Hey, I'm friendly with German people," he said. (hb take:as you should be Paul)

As the 400th-anniversary celebrations continue, nationalists in the province have been seizing on various elements they feel are either too federalist, too anglophone, or both.
The most recent controversy was kick-started earlier this week by Quebec painter Luc Archambault, who circulated a petition decrying the "dangerous" presence of music with English lyrics. (hb take: are you freakin serious?)

But Archambault's campaign appeared to lose momentum on Thursday as he backed down from the tempest he stirred.
"I greatly admire McCartney... and I am counting on him as a socially engaged artist to be receptive to my proposal," he said.
"My proposal is to inform about the situation in which we (francophones) live in Quebec."
He added he is not opposed to McCartney's concert itself, but said Quebec artists should be given the same amount of attention. (hb take:see my Celine Dion comment above lmao)

The Parti Quebecois' culture critic, who signed the petition, also distanced himself from earlier anti-McCartney comments.
Pierre Curzi issued a news release Thursday to say he too is a Beatles fan and only wanted to remind McCartney about the precarious state of the French language in Quebec.
(hb take: BFD!!!!!!!!!! not everyone in the states speaks English c'mon these guys are trippin!)

"When you step on stage Sunday to celebrate this beautiful French city, remember with us that the language which gives it life is still fragile," Curzi said. (hb take: DRama!!!!!! lmao your life will NOT be ruined if Sir Paul McCartney sings in Englsih)

Archambault nevertheless stressed he wasn't moved by McCartney's appeal to cast politics aside.
"He was coached by the Quebec government, he was told what to answer," the painter said.
McCartney told Radio-Canada he has been working on expanding the few lines of French he used in the 1965 hit "Michelle."
"Naturally everyone speaks French," he said in French, momentarily disguising his Scouse accent.
The Liverpool native is expected to make use of his French, however limited, during the show. He also said he plans to spend part of the day seeing the city's sites.
"Come on Quebece-ins (Quebecers), love me baby," he said.

The open-air concert is McCartney's only scheduled appearance in North America this year and organizers are expecting a crowd of around 200,000.

"I would like people to say that was the best night of my life," McCartney said. hb take: and they will Paul and they will you GO Macca! wooohooooo

"I can say we've been rehearsing this all week and we've been having a great time with the band, so we're feeling good."

Still in search of a place to live renters getting that shaft!

^
^

The Beatles

Still in search of a place to live renters getting that shaft!

I'm still searching for a place to live, outta Sunnyvale and back to San Jose, Sunnyvale is just way to expensive! Downtown San Jose is just homie, inviting & quaint.

A few weeks ago I posted about the outrageous rents on Craigslist.. I'v'e been looking for over 3 months and it's becoming a drag~errr.. I'm really curious what people pay in rent where they live? C'mon you can post it, not to mention the outrageous GAS prices!
I also found the most perfect house I'd like to buy, if I had the money, its price tag $799,000 yep, HA, big bucks huh?

People seem to think that people who live in the Bay Area are all Rich, nope! Unless you work for Google, Yahoo, or some other Giant, a lawyer or a Doctor,.... you are struggling. Yes, there are people with "Fat Cash" here but not everyone is loaded! how many here are a paycheck away from homelessness?

Wherever you are in the world what do you pay in Gas prices & rent? If you own a home man that is great! I'd love that luxury!.. Go ahead, post your comments I'm so curious~

Today's vid describes my frustration, lol enjoy!
